A retreat and education centre on the land Georgia O'Keeffe painted. Day visitors are welcome at the museums and on booked tours; much of the ranch is private.
The real Los Alamos has modernised too far to double for the 1940s, so the production built the wartime townsite here instead — the main security gate, Oppenheimer's office from the original blueprints, two Quonset huts, a church and a run of cabins.
Trivia
Much of the set is still standing about forty miles from the real Los Alamos, and Ghost Ranch runs ticketed tours of it.
Production was given rare permission to film at O'Keeffe's actual home and studio at Ghost Ranch near Abiquiu, the first (and to date only) O'Keeffe biopic granted access to the real site by the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and Foundation.
Trivia
The film received nine Primetime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actress for Joan Allen as O'Keeffe.
